A deal, but no plea for teens charged with Medley break-in

Irondequoit, N.Y. - There is a plea deal offered for the eight teens that allegedly broke into Medley Centre Mall. And in court Tuesday, attorneys for many of the teens indicated they would likely accept that offer. But first they asked for a pre-plea investigation. That will verify that the teens qualify for status as youthful offenders, which is part of the deal. A deal that would seal their records.

The 19-year-old charged in the case is being offered the same deal, but cannot be granted youthful offender status because of his age. All of teens would plead guilty to a lesser charge of criminal trespass, which is a misdemeanor. They would also perform 80 hours of community service and pay $377 to cover damages to the mall.

The teens signed up for their community service after court Tuesday. None had any comment about the plea offer. Attorneys for some of those charged said it was a fair deal and that the district attorneys office was treated the teens the same and extending them all the same deal.

The teens will return to court August 5 to plead to the charges.
