U.S. Attorney: Gambling operation has ties to 13 properties

Rochester, N.Y. Three men, $76 million dollars and sports are they cogs in what authorities say was an elaborate two-year gambling operation based in Rochester.

Two of the men, Joseph Ruff and Paul Borrelli were arrested by federal authorities on Wednesday, arraigned and later released from custody. The third man, Mark Ruff was said to be in Connecticut as of Wednesday and it is unknown whether he has been arrested or not.

The trio face multiple charges pertaining to illegal gambling, and the transactions associated with it. The gambling operation is said to have begun in 2012 and involve $76 million in wagers, properties and bank accounts, according to the U.S. Attorneys office.

Property owned by the men include The Marina Bar in Charlotte, a vacant restaurant on Scottsville Road and Japanese restaurant in Greece, as well as ten other properties. If convicted, the U.S. government would be able to seize them, according to the indictment.

Efforts to reach the three men were unsuccessful. Borrelli and Joseph Ruff are due back in federal court on July 1st.
