Vets get warm welcome in Rochester

Rochester, N.Y. - One could make the argument that the best part about Honor Flight's trips to Washington D.C. isn't seeing the monuments - but arriving back home.

That argument - tested thoroughly - at the Rochester International Airport Sunday.

A swarm of applause, hugs, smiles and American flags greeted veterans, many of whom seemed truly surprised over their hero's welcome.

"I sure didn't expect anything like this," said veteran Fred Quirin. "I thought my friends would be here and everybody else's friends. But my gosh, both ends, at Baltimore too, we had a wonderful reception there. I can't describe it, it was just...outstanding."

Even the airport employees had a tough time holding in the enjoyment of the arrival!

13WHAM's Don Alhart hosted a reception for the vets Sunday at the airport.

Honor Flight covered the cost of the trip for the veterans.
