Monroe principal job in limbo

Rochester, N.Y. - After Thursday night's Rochester School Board meeting, the job of principal at Monroe High School remains open.

Armando Ramirez says he learned that he was being replaced as the principal of Monroe High School when he saw his job posted online. It was not until Thursday afternoon that he got the official word when he met with Superintendent Bolgen Vargas.

Vargas apologized to Ramirez at the meeting about the way he found out, saying it was a mistake.

There is a debate over why the decision was made, because the graduation rate of the school rose from 29 to 42 percent under Ramirez.

Barbara Zelazny of Avon was supposed to replace Ramirez, then the board amended a resolution to not assign her to Monroe High School, but somewhere else in the district.

Ramirez is tentured, so he will also be offered another position within the district.
