Alleged nursing home punch investigation
Rochester, N.Y. - New York State is investigating an alleged incident at a local nursing home after the family of an elderly man claims he was punched by a staff member.
Efrain Arroyo, 81, said he was punched in the face by an employee at Blossom North, an injury the family said landed him in a hospital emergency room.
Arroyos family said the worker who allegedly hit their loved one has since been fired.
I want charges pressed, said Vivian Arroyo, the alleged victims granddaughter. If she's a nurse, I want her license revoked. I want her to go to jail."
Arroyo says Blossom North first told the family the swollen, black-and-blue part of his face stemmed from a fall.
Though Arroyos family said he is afraid and wants to leave the nursing home, he remains in the same second floor room where he was allegedly punched, and can't be moved until he can be placed in another facility offering therapy for his specific health problems.
13WHAM has learned this is an active investigation which may lead to criminal charges.
Blossom North would not comment on the status of the worker allegedly involved, but released a statement that reads in part, "The facility took immediate action to investigate. Our extensive investigation and interviews were promptly turned over to the (State) Department of Health."
The investigation is also in the hands of the State Attorney Generals office.
