Debate over future of historic church

Rochester, N.Y. The future of a vacant church on West Main Street was up for debate Thursday.

The Landmark Society has declared the building at 660 West Main one of their five to revive for this year.

While the Landmark Society and others want to preserve it, some say it should be torn down and it should become something new.

We feel the streetscape of West Main Street, from Jefferson to Bulls Head, the integrity is there and we want to preserve it for future use, says Dawn Noto, a neighbor.

Right now the building is basically falling to disrepair, says Dionne King, another neighbor.

It doesnt look like anyone is interested in restoring it. I understand it is a historic site but at this point what good is it to have a historical building that is not able to be used?

The zoning board has not made a decision yet.
