Magic City nightclub agrees to close

Rochester, NY - Rochester nightclub Magic City has agreed to voluntarily close.

City officials said Robert Monteneri will participate in a City-led program aimed at allowing them to reopen under strict rules.

The temporary shutdown begins Tuesday and will stay in effect for a minimum of 30 days.

Magic City's owners will work with the East End Business and Neighborhood Association, the Rochester Police Department and other existing clubs.

"Most of the problems have been caused by a small number of club patrons," Mayor Lovely Warren said. "We want a vibrant and safe nightlife in our city.  We also want to be able to support businesses, but we cannot and will not tolerate violence.  When incidents happen, we must step in."

Magic City will be required to sign off on the plan prior to any reopening.
