Cuomo reacts to HWS NYT article

Governor Andrew Cuomo weighed in today on the handling of a rape investigation at Hobart William Smith Colleges in Geneva that was the focus of an article in the New York Times.

As a father, Governor Cuomo says this is a personal issue and should have been handled by police.

As a Former Attorney General and Assistant District Attorney, he says all victims have rights that should not be forgotten.

As a father, I have three daughters, two right now on college campuses, so this is personal to anyone who has a child on a college campus, says Governor Cuomo. I understand colleges like to handle it themselves but the victim has the right to go to the police and that has to be kept paramount in all of this.

The State Legislature recently approved a bill requiring colleges to report violent crimes to law enforcement within 24 hours.

It awaits Cuomos signature.
