SJFC Wegmans School of Nursing gets federal grant
Rochester, N.Y. The Wegmans School of Nursing at St. John Fisher College received a federal grant for an Advanced Education Nurse Traineeship Program, the school announced Monday.
The $700,000 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration is meant to help reverse the shortage of primary care providers, according to Dr. Dianne Cooney-Miner, Dean of the Wegmans School of Nursing.
Dr. Cooney-Miner indicated that up to 3 million New Yorkers are without a primary care provider.
This traineeship grant will support the education of 24 graduate students enrolled in the Wegmans School of Nursing Family Nurse Practitioner program, accelerate their completion of the program, and deploy them into health care settings to increase access across our region, Dr. Cooney-Miner said in a statement.
Aside from accelerated learning, the grant will allow the school to expand learning sites for mentoring support for graduate students including the inner city, medically underserved, minority, migrant workers, rural citizens, veterans and disadvantaged city school student populations.
