Subject of NY Times Hobart article speaks

Geneva, New York - A Hobart and William Smith Colleges student who claims she was raped on campus is now the face of a new push to change the way sexual assaults are handled.

Wednesday, the student, identifying herself as Anna, spoke publicly for the first time since

The New York Times profiled her case. The piece questioned Hobarts review process and how it affected the criminal case.

The Ontario County Sheriffs Office disputed those claims.

Anna and her mother joined Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Thursday to push a proposal that would give colleges and police better tools to handle similar situations.

Gillibrand points out that the proposal would protect both victims and suspects.

Law enforcement and the colleges stand by the methods used to investigate the case.
