Ground offensive continues in Gaza

Gaza Israeli troops pushed deeper into Gaza Friday in a ground operation meant to destroy tunnels dug from Gaza into Israeli territory.

The tunnels, dug by Hamas militants, are key to keeping Palestinian militants from launching future attacks on Israel, officials said.

Air strikes continued on the first full day of Israels ground offensive.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that as Hamas fires more rockets, Israels operation could expand deeper in to Gaza soon.

President Obama said that while the U.S. strongly supports Israels right to defend itself, the U.S. and its allies are concerned about the loss of innocent lives.

No nation should accept rockets being fired into its borders or terrorists tunneling into its territory, President Obama said.

Palestinian officials claim that of the more than 250 people killed in the last ten days, at least 60 were children.

Two Israelis have been killed, including a soldier who was shot during the first hours of the ground offensive.
