Plane found in Lake Ontario

Oswego, N.Y. - Remnants of a U.S. Air Force aircraft that crashed in 1952 were found in Lake Ontario near Oswego.

The C-45 went down in September 1952 on its way to Bedford, Massachusetts from Griffiss Air Force Base near Rome, New York.

One of its two engines failed during the flight and the crew parachuted out.

The plane continued to fly another 65 miles before crashing.

Crews searched for the plane, but could not find the wreckage.

A crew with Shipwreck World recently disovered the plane.

Roger Pawlowski, with Shipwreck World, and two of his friends were searching Lake Ontario for shipwrecks when the plane caught their attention.

"It's just interesting to come across something nobody's seen in the last 200 years, you know, and actually go and look at it," says Pawlowski. "They're like little museums under there. That's why we don't touch them. We leave them for the future so other people can enjoy them."

The explorers have put video and photos of the wreck on their website.

Correction: An earlier report erroneously identified Griffiss Air Force Base as "Griffins."
