Craters cause fits for drivers in Fairport

Fairport, N.Y. - Drivers were forced to take detours, and road crews had to be called in on their day off.

All because of several giant craters.

The imitation sinkholes were spotted, and eventually filled in on Baird Road and Nine Mile Point Road in Fairport.

Director of the Monroe County Water Authority Bill Carpenter said the hole on Baird is actually the result of a water main break, one of five in the county today.

Carpenter told 13WHAM one driver drove into the hole and had to be helped out.

The road is now fixed, but those in the neighborhood pointed out it had just been repaved about a week ago.
