Son returns favor, surprises father

Greece, N.Y. - One local veteran was hoping to surprise his son, a soldier stationed Kansas, when he returned at the airport next week.

But it seems his son had other plans.

Private First Class Zachary Graham pulled the old switcheroo, surprising his father instead.

Graham showed up at a Wounded Warrior benefit concert Saturday in Greece. While on stage, Douglas Graham, was shocked to see Zachary, who embraced him amid a round of applause from the crowd.

The younger Graham arrived in town a few days early and didn't tell his father.

He told 13WHAM he was returning the favor to a man who made plenty of important appearances years ago.

"Every time he'd come back from his deployments, which he went on a lot - serving the country, he would come back and surprise me whether it was at school, or a football game senior night at my high school," said Graham. "I just felt that something here, honoring him, in his own community where he grew up would just mean a lot if I'd make it."

Graham is stationed in Fort Reilly in Kansas.

Proceeds from Saturday's concert benefit the New York Warrior Alliance.
