Mother of slain teen sues US Border Patrol
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- The mother of a Mexican teen who was shot to death by a U.S. Border Patrol agent nearly two years ago is suing the agency in federal court.
The ACLU filed the lawsuit on behalf of Araceli Rodriguez on Tuesday. Rodriguez is the mother of Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez, who was 16 years old when he was fatally wounded by gunshots fired from Nogales, Arizona, into Nogales, Sonora, in October 2012.
The Border Patrol has said that Rodriguez was among several people who were throwing rocks at agents across the steel fence that divides the two countries.
Rodriguez says her son was simply walking home after playing basketball with friends. An autopsy report shows Rodriguez was struck in the back by at least eight bullets.
