Motorcycle passenger killed in crash
Rochester, N.Y. - A female passenger on a motorcycle was killed following an accident on 590 North Saturday evening.
State Police said the driver, Dennis Conklin, of Williamson, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Troopers do not consider his injuries life-threatening.
The passenger, 46-year-old Mary Nolan, of Rochester, somehow fell off the back of the bike, hit the ground, and died at the scene.
Nolan was an employee at Monroe Community College. They released the following statement Sunday:
"The MCC family is shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of Mary Nolan. Mary worked with students for all of her MCC career, in Student Accounts and most recently in the Office of the Vice President of Student Services. She loved working with students and her kind, caring approach to helping students succeed was appreciated by students and admired by her colleagues. Mary was also a talented ballerina, and enjoyed teaching an intramural ballet class at MCC. She will be sorely missed."
Moments later, the male driver crashed the motorcycle into one of the cement guardrails.
Investigators shut down part of 590 North around the Can of Worms to determine more about the cause of the crash.
According to the New York State Police, formal charges in the accident are pending.
