NY state senator Maziarz won't run again

Albany, N.Y. (AP) -- A longtime New York state senator says he won't run again amid reports that his office is under investigation by a federal prosecutor.

Sen. George Maziarz of Niagara County made his announcement late Sunday night, saying he wasn't feeling up to another campaign. The 61-year-old was first elected to the Senate in 1995.

Maziarz' decision comes after the resignation of his chief of staff Alisa Colatarci. Colatarci's attorney says she is cooperating with federal prosecutors after being subpoenaed for an investigation relating to the senator and his campaign committee.

Three other Republican senators have decided not to seek re-election this fall. Sen. Greg Ball honored a term limits pledge. Sen. Lee Zeldin is running for Congress and Charles Fuschillo became executive director of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
