UR medicine opens new neuromedicine ICU

Rochester, N.Y. University of Rochester Medicine opened its neuromedicine ICU Monday, as part of a larger comprehensive treatment facility for those with serious and life-threatening conditions.

Stroke and traumatic brain injury patients can now come to the facility for highly specialized care.

What we aim to do is take care of patients who come here and also be a resource for teaching via telemedicine and even phone consults for similarly ill patients who cant come to us, said Dr. Manjuath Markandaya, a neuromedicine critical care doctor.

The $5.5 million facility has 12 beds and each room has enough space for families.
