Local man's estate sues GM

Hamlin, N.Y. The estate of a Hamlin man is suing General Motors claiming he was killed in December by a defective ignition switch the same switch that was part of a large recall.

According to court paperwork, in December of 2013, 23-year-old Daniel Hollaert, Jr. was killed when the ignition switched from the run positions caused him to lose control. He crossed the center line on Ridge Road in Orleans County and hit a school bus head-on.

At the time of the accident, Police said they didnt know what caused the crash.

Court paperwork said the ignition switched out of the run positions and airbags failed to deploy.

The plaintiff claims in February, General Motors knew that the Chevrolet Cobalt had an ignition problem and only notified the dealers.
