Rams cut Michael Sam from roster

St. Louis, Missouri - Michael Sam, the first openly-gay player in the NFL, has been cut from the St. Louis Rams.

The team announced Saturday that he was waived and did not qualify for the 53-man roster.

On Friday, Sam told reporters he was confident he would be playing in the NFL this season, whether with St. Louis, "or any other team."

Sam was a seventh round pick for the Rams during this year's NFL Draft.
