Nunda Lumber fire considered suspicious

Nunda, N.Y. - Two buildings near a popular lumber and hardware store were destroyed by a fire early Saturday morning on State Street.

The buildings are part of the Nunda Lumber and Hardware store and are mostly used for storage.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, calls for the fire came in around 5:33 a.m. Saturday.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, according to investigators.

The main store is still open and operational, but the storage buildings will have to be rebuilt.

It took at least four fire fighting units to put the fire out, and witnesses say flames appeared to reach 40 feet in the air. The materials inside the buildings such as tar and insulation created extremely hot flames which made extinguishing the fire difficult.

There were no injuries, but the cause of the fire is under investigation.
