58-year-old victim identified

Rochester N.Y. – Deputies say 58-year-old Joseph F. Robinson died after being hit by a woman driving an SUV on Paul Road near the Greater Rochester International Airport on Friday evening.

The investigation is ongoing but police believe it was an accident and they rule out alcohol as a factor.

Robinson’s family tells 13WHAM News that bicycling was a huge part of his life and part of his daily routine.

Neighbors say they almost always saw him riding after work.

“Everybody knew him as the bike guy,” said James Brown Jr. a neighbor of Robinson. “Even if it was raining and sometimes snowing, he’d be out there riding.”

Robinson lived on Rosalind Street, almost 4 miles away from the crash that took his life on Paul Road.

The crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. on Friday, and investigators say Robinson’s bicycle was equipped with lights and reflectors.

Sheriff’s deputies say the person who hit Robinson immediately tried to call for help.

According to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, the driver likely crossed over the fog line on Paul Road and hit Robinson.

The investigation is ongoing.
