RPD gets grant for bulletproof vests

The Rochester Police Department has been awarded a grant to purchase bulletproof vests.

The grant was announced Monday by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.

It will allow the Rochester Police Department to buy 270 vests.

The money comes from The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP).

Since 1999, the BVP program has reimbursed more than 13,000 jurisdictions, a total of $375 million in federal funds for the purchase of over one million vests.
