Red Cross needs blood, platelet donations

The Rochester Red Cross is in urgent need for blood and platelet donations.

The Red Cross needs platelet donors and those with types O negative, B negative and A negative blood to prevent a shortage.

A blood drive is being held Friday  in honor of a Seneca Falls toddler .

Blake Simmons,2, was diagnosed with non-compaction cardiomyopathy.

He spent three months waiting for a heart transplant and during that time, he received three blood transfusions.

Blake still requires monthly blood tests and echocardiograms, but is thriving.  

The Simmons family wants to help other children in need.
