Man pleads guilty in aggravated vehicular assault

Rochester, N.Y. A Rochester man pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault Tuesday after he drove his SUV off the road and hit six students who were walking to School Without Walls December 13, 2013.

Mark Heeks, Jr., 25, admitted to using heroin and then driving, but said he blacked out while behind the wheel.

The accident happened at the intersection of Broadway and Alexander streets. Everyone involved in the crash, including Heeks, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for their injuries that were considered non-life threatening.

Heeks will remain at the Monroe County Jail until his sentencing in September. Heeks will be sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison for the incident.
