The George Eastman House released this statement Wednesday:
"George Eastman House is truly saddened to learn of Lauren Bacall's passing. Her talent, beauty and grace, so apparent in her films, many of which are conserved at the museum, were matched by her indomitable strength, fierce determination and courageous social consciousness. A George Eastman Award winner in 1990, we were pleased to honor Lauren Bacall in Rochester for her long and distinguished film career, and for her recognition of the need for film preservation. George Eastman House is home to 55 film titles featuring Bacall, and more than 2,600 still photographs from her films. She was indeed one of a kind. Her special gift will continue to resonate through her films for those who never had the chance to meet this remarkable human being. We extend our sincere condolences to her family and count ourselves lucky to have had the good fortune to have known her."
