Toddler found wandering alone

Avon, NY -  An Avon woman and her father are facing charges after a toddler was found walking alone on a street.

Helen Hotchkiss, 28, and Melvin Hotchkiss, 53, were arrested over the weekend.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office said it received a 911 call around 8:20 p.m. August 16 after a 3-year-old girl was found alone.

Deputies said they went door-to-door trying to find the child's family and found the  toddler's grandfather an hour later.

Deputies said Melvin Hotchkiss gave a false name and date of birth because he thought he had a warrant for his arrest.

Deputies said the child's mother, Helen Hotchkiss, was found soon after.

Investigators said she never called 911 for help even after noticing the child was missing.

Helen Hotchkiss was arrested for Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Melvin Hotchkiss was arrested for Criminal Impersonation 2nd degree after supplying a false name to Deputies.

Both were processed at the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and issued appearance tickets.

The child was turned over to the father who was not involved in the incident.
