Football returns to local high school

Monroe High School held a back-to-school event Wednesday.

Students got to check out the school’s new football jerseys and helmets for the first time in 30 years.

The team’s coach calls it a win-win.

"While student love math class, I'm sure there are those other things that make them excited and want to come to school," says Jason Muhammad, head football coach. "The pep rallies and homecoming games, those are the cultural things in the building that make students excited and want to be there and take part in the total school experience. Then while they are there, they also know that to contribute in the sports arena, they have to also contribute in the academic arena."

Jason Muhammad says they want to grow the program starting with modified football, then moving to junior varsity and varsity.
