K9 units show worth

Rochester, N.Y. - Members of the Crimestoppers board of directors got a first-hand look on Tuesday at what K9s do and how they help police do their work.

They were invited to watch Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies training with their ideas.

“They’re probably one of the most important tools any department can have. They are horribly expensive, but they are worth every penny because they can do things humans cannot do. They do drug searches, bomb sniffing at airports, all kinds of protection details. They go on regular patrols, find missing persons,” said Paul Hawkins, with the Rochester area Crimestoppers.

In May, Crimestoppers donated $1,500 to K9 units in Monroe County.
