Teens participate in police academy

Rochester, N.Y. For the first time ever, more than 40 local teens were on duty this week taking part in the teen police academy with the Monroe County Sheriffs Office.

Instead of playing video games and hanging out, these teens got a taste of what police academy cadets go through, from early morning work outs to lessons in penal law.

Its been eye opening to see how much it takes to mentally and goes into this and be ready for, said Blake Langdon, a student at Gates Chili High School.

Blake was one of 42 students selected from a pool of 90 who were referred to the program by their school districts.

I didnt understand how much heart and commitment it took. Eye opening experience to see whats to come, said Marianna Santos, a student from West Irondequoit High School.

This group of students is the first to go through the teen police academy.
