Loud boaters along Webster beach

by Kelsie Smith

Webster, N.Y. - Some weekend boaters are making too much noise for people who live along Lake Ontario in Webster.

Neighbors tell 13WHAM News some of the boats play music so loud and so close to shore that they can't have a conversation in their own home, even with the windows and doors shut.

"I don't mind hearing them, I just don't want to be blasted out by them," said Al Webster who has lived on Lake Road for nearly 40 year. "I love music, 90% of the music they play is great but then they get some of the bad stuff, and then like I say with today's amplifiers and speakers we could be sitting here and unless you read lips you won't know what I'm saying. It can be that loud out there."

But Webster was quick to point out that's the minority; he said the majority of the boaters are respectful.

"We do like to live and let live, it's a beautiful situation and we understand but it gets to a point, you got to draw a line, draw a line in the sand," said Webster.

Some neighbors have posted no trespassing signs along the jetty and shore to keep people off the private beach.

Others have called police because of the noise and trespassing.

Webster's police chief said his department doesn't handle incidents on the water. When they do get those calls it's referred to the sheriff or coast guard.
