Man tased after police chase
Rochester, N.Y. - Two people face charges after a report of a stolen car led to a police chase and ended with the suspect being tased by officers.
According to the Rochester Police Department, both the woman who reported her car stolen and the suspect who fled from police will face charges.
Investigators said the 18-year-old woman who owns the car knows the suspect and is accused of falsely reporting an incident.
Police said the woman initially told investigators that she had been forcibly robbed of her car keys by an unknown man while inside store on St. Paul Street.
She claimed the suspect then took offit was the start of a chain of events that led to a chase that nearly injured a police officer.
He was like no youre not going to catch me, he wanted to be on a high speed chase and he didnt get too far, they caught him right there, Id seen it all. Antoinette Strong said she was on her porch with three young kids when she watched the red Honda run right into her sisters car.
He was pushing her car out of the way but her car wasnt moving because the front brake was on and when he couldnt, he backed into the police car and tried to come forward over the curb, said Strong.
Directly across the street from the store where the Honda was reported stolen, the short police chased came to an end when the suspect hit a parked car. A police cruiser pulled up behind the car to block it in but the driver wasnt ready to give up. Police said the suspect threw the car into reverse and backed into the RPD car.
The drivers side door smashed in, the officer jumped out of the vehicle just in time.
Strong said the officer dove out the passenger side right before impact. Strong said, He jumped out the other side, I dont understand how he came out that door right there but he came out the other side and they started tasing him.
Witnesses said the suspect was tased multiple times but according to police, two officers deployed tasers and only one connected with the suspect.
Strong said, They tased him and pulled him out of the car and handcuffed him and took him off to the hospital.
According to police, the suspect was transported to Rochester General to get the prongs from the taser removed from his body. Strong said shes just grateful police were able to stop the suspect before anyone else got hurt. We were sitting right there, if he would have kept that foot on the gas any longer that car would have come up on this grass and hit us.
As of Thursday night, the names of the two suspects had not been released as charges had not been officially filed yet.
