Pipes break, restaurant cleanup begins

Rochester, N.Y. - The owners of Salena's Mexican Restaurant say it could be a week or two before the restaurant is able to reopen.

On Saturday, a fire that started in a third floor apartment above the Village Gates restaurant created problems with water pipes which led to damage after those pipes burst.

On Facebook, owners of Salena's were encouraging and offering to pay volunteers to help with the cleanup efforts.

A plumber at the scene of the damaged restaurant spoke with 13WHAM News about how and why the pipes broke.

"They had to increase the water pressure on the sprinkler," said Mike Polisseni of C M Plumbing. "It put higher pressure onto the pipe, they were weak and it caused a break in the line."

In total there were two water main breaks outside the building as a result of the water surge, and a series of broken pipes inside the building that caused damage.

Investigators say the fire was caused by an electrical issue.

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.
