Four men trapped in gravel hopper

Barre, N.Y. Four men were trapped inside a hopper full of a sand and gravel mix around 10:45 a.m. Monday at Frontier Sand and Gravel, according to the Orleans County Sheriffs Office.

The hopper was being loaded when it became blocked because of overloading. Jacob Vick, 20, Lawrence Vick, 22, Richard Miller, 61 - all of Albion and Devin Taylor, 19, of Medina, all went into the hopper to move the material that was causing the blockage, investigators said.

Police said that Miller sank to the opening in the bottom of the hopper and was covered with the sand and gravel. The others also became trapped in their effort to rescue him.

All four men were able to get out with minor injuries with help from the Barre Fire Department.

The four men were treated at the scene, police said.
