Federal funds released for Braddock Bay project

Rochester, N.Y. The Environmental Protection Agency will provide $575,000 in federal funds for the final part of the restoration project at Braddock Bay, Senator Charles Schumer announced Friday.

The project is meant to address the falling number of boaters in the area after erosion of beaches in the area has made Lake Ontario difficult to access for boaters.

Braddock Bay was once a boaters paradise, and I am confident it will be again. And we are on our way there thanks to the EPA, who I commend for taking this critical set toward making the restoration of Braddock Bay a reality, Senator Schumer said in a statement.

The key to the restoration is the reconstruction of a barrier beach to prevent rough tides from Lake Ontario washing sand and sediment into the bay.

The design phase of the project is expected to be finished by September 2015 with construction expected to begin 12 months later.
