Spencerport home searched in Greece heist investigation

Greece and Spencerport, N.Y. - 13WHAM News has learned new information about the investigation into a home invasion and jewelry store robbery in Greece earlier this week.

Greece Police along with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team and other police agencies surrounded a Spencerport home on Union St. Friday afternoon.

The owner of that home tells 13WHAM he knows the family that was held captive in their home and the owner of the jewelry store that was robbed.

The suspects were not inside the Spencerport home, but the tenants, a woman and her children, were being questioning by police as of Friday evening.

"We've developed leads in this investigation which have led us to a potential identity of the suspects and the location of some evidence of the crime," said Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan.

The three male suspects police are searching for are accused of holding a mother, father and their adult son captive in a North Glen Drive apartment for at least 10 hours on Wednesday.

Police say the mother and father both work at the Jewelry Lab at the Greece Ridge Mall, which is only a short drive away from the family's apartment.

As soon as the mall opened, two of the men left to steal the jewelry wearing all black and their faces covered in masks. The third suspect remained with the family to make sure the keys and the passcode to the alarm system worked. A person close to the victims tells 13WHAM, one of the suspects was threatening the family with a firearm.

Those close to the victims also said the suspects grabbed several items from the family's apartment that they had touched and threw them in the bathtub, then filled the tub with bleach to destroy any evidence.

As soon as the jewelry was successfully taken, the third suspect left the apartment in one of the victim's car. The stolen vehicle is a 2013 gray Honda Accord. Police are still looking for that vehicle.

Once the suspects left, the mother was able to free herself, then her husband and son. They then called police.

The owner of the Jewelry Lab said the suspects knew what they were after, and took the most valuable pieces. Gold chains, charms and bracelets filled with diamonds.

Police indicate tens of thousands of dollars' worth of jewelry were taken. The owner told 13WHAM they do not have insurance for the stolen items.

The Jewelry Lab has six cameras inside the store. Police have taken all security footage for evidence.

Greece Police say they have leads as to who the suspects are.
