Rochester Lancers not returning

Rochester, N.Y. - In a letter titled "To My Rochester Lancers Family" Salvatore Fantauzzo, better known as SoccerSam, said the Lancers will not be returning for the 2014-2015 season.

In the letter he said, "I hope you will cherish these amazing memories for life and smile thinking about all the great Lancers times we had."

Lancers player Doug Miller said he will do everything he can to keep the team alive.

Miller is the Rhinos all-time leader in goals and twice MVP for the Lancers.

His two daughters dance for the Junior Lancers Dancers and his wife Kari is also involved.

Miller said the games bring thousands of people into downtown Rochester. He said its a community event for all ages where the players interact with the fans and build relationships.

We're coming into the season and I think we would disappoint thousands of thousands of fans, and tens of thousands of kids who come out and watch the games looking for role models to look up to, said Miller.

Miller hopes the community will help turn this decision around.

Fantauzzo said he plans on investing his time helping youth soccer, and will keep the Lancers name and heritage alive.

For season ticket holders and sponsors, staff will soon be in touch about account credits.
