Small plane crashes in Victor field

Victor, N.Y. – A single engine plane crashed in a field on County Road 41 in Victor Friday after it ran out of fuel, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s office.

The pilot, 74-year-old Richard Schaefer, of Shortsville, was uninjured in the crash, police said.

According to investigators, Schaefer was flying from Lancaster in Erie County to Hopewell when he ran out of fuel. Schaefer attempted to land in the field, but when the tires touched down, the plane flipped over.

The plane sustained minimal damage, investigators said.
