Mall spokesperson: Security not breached

Greece, N.Y. –  A spokesperson at The Mall at Greece Ridge said there was not a breach in security the day a jewelry store was robbed.

Three men were arrested Tuesday for holding a mother, father and son captive and robbing the store.

Thomas Pryor, 29, of Spencerport, Qzay Clark, 28, or Farmington, and Alexander Kates, 23, of Rochester are charged with kidnapping, assault, criminal use of a fire arm, robbery, burglary and grand larceny.

According to police, the three suspects followed the manager of the Jewelry Lab at Greece Ridge Mall back to his apartment on August 7th.

Police said the suspects attacked the man and waited for his wife and adult son to return home.

Police said the suspects stole the family’s car, keys  and burglarized the jewelry store in the morning.

The Mall at Greece Ridge released the following statement on Thursday:

“The Mall at Greece Ridge has over 140 different stores, which collectively employee over 1,500 full and part-time staff.

The suspects involved in the theft at the Jewelry Lab entered the store under the guise of store employees. They entered the premise with a key and code to de-activate the alarm system, which had it gone off, would have alerted mall security and authorities. The incident occurred during the hours the mall doors are open to the public for mall walkers, store employees and a few stores.  To anyone passing by, they could have been construed as store employees, prepping the store to open and/or take inventory in the morning.  This was not a breach of security.

Greece Ridge’s security did everything according to procedure, including cooperating with the Greece Police Department to aid in the investigation and arrest.”
