Tony Stewart will not race Sunday

Watkins Glen, N.Y. - NASCAR driver Tony Stewart decided not to race at Watkins Glen Sunday after a fatal car accident at Canandaigua Motorsports Park Saturday night.

The decision was announced by Greg Zipadelli, the competition director for Stewart-Haas Racing, of which Tony Stewart is a co-owner.

Saturday night Stewart was involved in the fatal accident that killed Kevin Ward, Jr., 20, of Port Leyden during lap 14 of a 25 lap race.

Regan Smith will drive for Tony Stewart at Watkins Glen.

NASCAR released the following statement regarding the incident:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and fellow competitors of Kevin Ward, Jr. We support Tony Stewart's decision to miss today's race and we will continue to respect the process and timeline of local authorities and will continue to monitor this situation moving forward.
