Modified sports restored in W. Irondequoit

Irondequoit, N.Y. - All 29 of the modified athletic teams in the West Irondequoit School District have been reinstated.

The announcement was made Tuesday in a news release from West Irondequoit's Director of Health, P.E. and Athletics, Anthony Lipani.

Over the course of the past few weeks, donations had poured in to help restore some of the modified sports teams which were cut after two failed budget votes. If just over $48,000 were raised by Tuesday, 17 teams would have been restored.

However, thanks to a donation by Mark’s Pizzeria, the district announced that all 29 teams will be restored for the coming school year.

The 2014-2015 year begins Wednesday. The district that nearly 700 students will participate in the modified sports program.
