Families shop for school supplies

Rochester, N.Y. – Students are heading back to school Wednesday and parents were hitting the stores Monday to stock up on supplies from the list that seems to grow every year.

The Sriganesh family spent their Labor Day shopping for school supplies for two children – Sash, who’s starting high school and Skanda, who is in seventh grade.

Pens, pencils and notebooks filled the cart.

The family spent just over $341, which isn’t bad for two supply lists, but that doesn’t include clothing and shoes.

Tamara Minter, a teacher at the Rochester City School District was buying supplies for her own classroom.

“I got a composition book and I have hand sanitizer,” Minter said. “I think school supplies can be very expensive.”
