2013 PGA Championship posts preliminary field list

ROCHESTER, NY, July 16, 2013 The Preliminary Field List for the 2013 PGA Championship is posted. Of the 156 players who make up the strongest field in golf, 114 are exempt into the championship based on current eligibility requirements and those who have registered for the 2013 PGA Championship.
 
The full field of 156 players plus alternates will be finalized after July 29, said Ryan Cannon, championship director for the 95th PGA Championship. Currently, 114 players have committed to play the 2013 PGA Championship. Perennially the strongest field in golf, the worlds top pros will challenge the legendary East Course at Oak Hill and compete for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy Aug. 5-11.

    All contestants in the Championship (except international players) must be a PGA of America member in good standing. The PGA of America has approved the following list of players eligible to compete in the 95th PGA Championship:
 
1.     All former PGA Champions.
2.     Winners of the last five Masters (2009 2013).
3.     Winners of the last five U.S. Opens (2009 2013).
4.     Winners of the last five Open Championships (2009 2013).
5.     The 2013 Senior PGA Champion.
6.     The 15 low scorers and ties in the 2012 PGA Championship.
7.     The 20 low scorers in the 2013 PGA Professional National Championship.
8.     The 70 leaders from the PGA Championship Points list from the 2012 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational through the 2013 RBC Canadian Open ending July 28.
9.         Members of the 2012 United States and European Ryder Cup Teams providing they remain within the top 100 of the World Golf Rankings as of July 12, 2013.
10.     Winners of tournaments co-sponsored or approved by the PGA Tour from the
2012 PGA Championship to the 2013 PGA Championship (does not include pro-am and team competitions).
11.         Vacancies will be filled by the first available player from the list of alternates (those below 70th place in the PGA Championship Points list from the 2012 World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational through the 2013 RBC Canadian Open, ending July 28).
12.     In addition, The PGA of America reserves the right to invite additional players not included in the categories listed above. The total field will be a maximum of 156 players.
        
The PGA Championship is one of golf's four major championships and is one of the largest sporting events conducted each year in the United States. Next year will mark the third time the PGA Championship will be contested in the Rochester, N.Y. community, preceded by the 1980 and 2003 PGA Championships at Oak Hill Country Club.
