Aquinas beats Elmira, earns spot in title game

It wasn't as pretty as last week's shootout with Jamestown, but this was far more typical of the Little Irish teams we're used to.

Aquinas gutted out a win against the Elmira Express, 19-6, in the class AA semifinal at Sahlen's Stadium on Saturday night.

Windy, frigid conditions made things miserable for the players, but Luch Pietropaolo and Jake Zembiec led the way on offense, and the defense did a good job shutting down Elmira's dynamic rushing attack.

Aquinas will play next Sunday, December 1 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse for their first state title since 2010. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm.
