Four teams take home New York State titles

Sunday represents one of the busiest days in the high school sports calendar year. 18 separate state championship games are played over three different sports, and four teams from Section V are coming back home with at least a share of a trophy.

The Pittsford Sutherland girls volleyball team, the Pittsford Mendon boys soccer team, and the Jasper Troupsburg girls and boys soccer teams all won New York State titles on Sunday. The Mendon and J-T boys each played to a draw in their respective matches, giving them both a share of a state title.

A few other teams had a chance at a state championship but came up just short. The HF-L girls soccer team, Mercy volleyball team, and Brighton field hockey team each lost in their respective state final contests.

The fall sports season is now complete for everyone in Section V except for Aquinas, who advanced to the class AA football semifinal with a win over Jamestown on Saturday.
