Lancers take down Pennsylvania

(Rochester, NY) The Rochester Lancers (3-5) defeated the Pennsylvania Roar (0-8) for the second time this season on Friday night.  The Lancers knocked off the Roar by a score of 10-5. The Lancers were led offensively by Gary Boughton who had two goals and Mauricio Salles and Sean Summerville who chipped in a goal and an assist each. Gavin McInerney made 8 saves for the win in goal for the Lancers.

The Lancers got on the board just 18 seconds into the match when Stephen Basso set up Joey Tavernese right in front of goal.  Tavernese wasted little time in converting the set up for an early goal.  The first quarter would any scoring after  the initial tally as Peter Pappas was forced to make six saves for the visitors.

The Roar took the lead when early in the second when Kevin Coleman scored from beyond the 3-point arc, to give the visitors a 3-2 lead. But, the Lancers would answer just 36 seconds later when Luis Enrique found Boughton in the penalty area.  Boughton chipped the ball past Pappas for the goal to put the Lancers up 4-3 at the half.
The Lancers looked to strike first in the third quarter and did so when Salles had his effort stopped and Summerville put away the rebound. The Roar managed to pull to within a point when Gibrilla Conde created a turnover and scored, cutting the Lancer lead to 6-5. This time it would take the Lancers only 48 seconds to reply when Summerville returned the favor and set up Salles for the goal to give the Lancers an 8-5 lead after the third quarter.

The Lancers would again strike quickly in the final quarter when Jake Schindler set up Boughton for his second goal of the game just 21 seconds into the final stanza. That would be all the scoring in the final quarter and the Lancers would win by a score of 10-5.
