Gates-Chili's Dillard Set for Sectionals
When she was 12, Cierra Dillard made a promise.
"I told my mom at a young age that I didn't want her to pay for college. As much as she did for me, as much as she sacrificed, that was one of the things that drove me to be the player I am today."
Today, the UMass bound gates-chili senior is more than just a woman of her word.
She's one of the most prolific scorers in section V history.
Dillard came into Tuesday's game needing just 7 points to become just the 20th player in section V history to reach 2000 for her career.
She finished with 25.
"it's amazing. I can't take into words, I can't believe that my name is gonna be even credited or put into that category."
Tara Grazadei has been Cierra's coach for 7 years.
They were together in JV for two years, and came up to varsity together five years ago.
"she even had a hard time kind of understanding what she was reaching with that 2000. She's very humble. I think I was more excited for her to do it. Besides just being a coach we've also developed a friend relationship in a way."
"I wouldn't be the player I am, or d1 material without her discipline, and practicing, practicing, practicing. I believe that she's one of my family, and she's gonna be in my heart for the rest of my life."
So 2000 points, a full ride to a division 1 college, not to mention a shot a 13-5 record and a shot at another section v title.
If you see Cierra smiling, you know there's a few reasons why.
