Sabres to pick second in NHL draft

For the first time all season, the Sabres were expected to win something.

Buffalo came into Tuesday's NHL Draft Lottery with a 25 percent chance to win the first overall pick. But in true Sabres fashion, their losing ways continued.

The Florida Panthers were awarded the first overall pick. Buffalo will pick second.

The Sabres could also be awarded the Islanders first round pick, which is fifth overall. The Islanders have the option of giving Buffalo this year's pick, or next years, as part of the Thomas Vanek trade from earlier in the season
