Reed, Thomas, Tasker to be featured guests at Press Radio Club Day Of Champions

Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, and Steve Tasker will headline the 65th annual Rochester Press-Radio Club Day of Champions Children’s Charity Dinner on Monday, June 9, at the Riverside Convention Center.

The players will collectively receive the Coca-Cola Sports Personality of the Year Award in recognition of the Buffalo Bills Super Bowl era (1990-94). This will be the first time the award is given to a team rather than an individual. Reed, Thomas, and Tasker will be joined at the head table by sports figures and local award winners to be announced in the coming weeks.

Reed, a fourth-round pick out of Kutztown (Pa.) State in 1985, went on to stand out for the Bills for 15 years, finishing his career with 951 receptions, 10th on the all-time list.  He was selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014, with the induction ceremony scheduled for August 2.

Thomas, a 2007 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, played for the Bills from 1988-1999 after a stellar career at Oklahoma State.  He is a five-time Pro Bowl selection, 1992 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and 1991 NFL MVP.

Tasker, a wide receiver who excelled on special teams, is a 7-time Pro Bowler out of Northwestern who was drafted in the 9th round by the Houston Oilers.  He was voted by Bills fans to the team’s 50th Anniversary team, and is a member of the Bills Wall of Fame.

“The Rochester Press-Radio Club is thrilled to welcome these great players to Rochester for the annual Day of Champions Dinner,’’ said Keith Ryan, Press-Radio Club Vice President and dinner co-chair. “We are fortunate to have the Bills in our community, and to be able to recognize their contributions at this year’s dinner is an honor.”

The Bills’ legends are the latest in a long line of prominent Day of Champions sports headliners that in recent years have included the likes of Eli and Peyton Manning, Colin Kaepernick, Drew Brees, Joe Torre, Arnold Palmer and Cal Ripken Jr.

Tickets for the dinner are $130, with a table of 10 available for a discounted price of $1,200. A limited number of private “Meet and Greet the Legends” packages are available for $595. The package includes two dinner tickets, two 8X10 photographs with the group of headliners and a commemorative football signed by the players. A limited number of VIP reception tickets are being offered at $200 per person, which also includes a dinner ticket. Each VIP ticketholder will receive photographs signed by Reed, Thomas and Tasker.

To reserve tickets or packages, call 585-340-1460. Credit cards or money orders are accepted as payment.

Since the Press-Radio Club’s inception in 1949, it has donated more than two million dollars to Rochester charities.
