Bills fall to Giants 17-13 in Preseason opener
There were questions surrounding the 2014 edition of the Buffalo Bills prior to Sunday's preseason opener against the New York Giants.
Those same questions remain after a 17-13 defeat.
EJ Manuel finished 2-7 for 19 yards, with three passes batted down at or near the line of scrimmage.
Rookie Sammy Watkins was targeted three times, but finished without a catch.
Buffalo's lone touchdown came from Jeff Tuel to Robert Woods in the second quarter. That gave Buffalo a 10-7 lead at the time.
Tuel appeared to take the lead over Thad Lewis in the race to be Manuel's backup. Tuel Finished 12-17 for 74 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Lewis went 10-16 for 87 yards with an interception, while also being sacked twice.
The bright spot for the Bills, however, was the starting defensive unit. Buffalo forced New York into a three-and-out on its first drive, following it up with a Kyle Williams strip sack of Eli Manning on the second drive. Keith Rivers recovered the fumble, forcing the turnover and giving the Bills the ball near the red zone. That would be the first-team defense's last play of the game.
Buffalo returns to training camp at St. John Fisher on Tuesday night. Their next preseason game is Friday night against the Carolina Panthers.
